Beinecke Scholarship (nomination required)

Beinecke scholars receive $4,000 upon completion of their undergraduate studies, and $30,000 for graduate study in the arts, humanities, and social sciences in the U.S. or internationally.  The nominee should represent superior standards of intellectual ability, scholastic achievement, and personal promise, and demonstrate financial need.   Deadline: December 16, 2014.

  • Applicant must be a junior.

Ford Foundation Diversity Fellowships

The Ford Foundation seeks to increase the diversity of the nation’s college and university faculties.  Applicants must be US citizens or nationals who demonstrate superior academic achievement and are committed to a career in teaching and research at the college level and who are enrolled or plan to enroll in a PhD or Sc.D. degree.  Each three-year fellowship includes an annual cash stipend plus an allowance for tuition & fees.

National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship (NDSEG)

As a means of increasing the number of U.S. citizens and nationals trained in science and engineering disciplines of military importance, the Department of Defense (DoD) plans to award approximately 200 new three-year graduate fellowships in April 2014, subject to the availability of funds. The DoD will offer these fellowships to individuals who have demonstrated the ability and special aptitude for advanced training in science and engineering.  NDSEG Fellowships are awarded to applicants who will pursue a doctoral degree in, or closely related to, an area of DoD interest.  There is no service requirement.

National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program (NSF GRFP)

The National Science Foundation’s Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) helps ensure the vitality of the human resource base of science and engineering in the United States and reinforces its diversity.  The program recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students in NSF-supported science, technology, engineering, and mathematics disciplines who are pursuing research-based master’s and doctoral degrees at accredited US institutions.  The NSF welcomes applications from all qualified students and strongly encourages under-represented populations, including women, under-represented racial and ethnic minorities, and persons with disabilities, to apply for this fellowship.  Not for work leading to degrees in clinical psychology, non-STEM education, business, history, or social work. There is no service requirement associated with the award.  Stipends for all new and continuing fellows will be $32,000 for 12 months tenure, plus a cost-of-education allowance in lieu of tuition costs and assessed fees (both provided for three years). Approximately 2000 fellowships will be awarded.

Payne Fellowships

The USAID Donald M. Payne International Development Graduate Fellowship Program seeks to attract outstanding young people who are interested in pursuing careers in the Foreign Service of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).  The Payne Fellowship, which provides up to $90,000 in benefits over two years for graduate school, internships, and professional development activities, provides a unique pathway to the USAID Foreign Service.  The Payne Fellowship encourages the application of members of minority groups who have historically been underrepresented in international development careers and those with financial need.

Pickering Fellowships

The Fellowship is designed to attract outstanding individuals from all ethnic, racial and social backgrounds who have an interest in pursuing a Foreign Service career with the U.S. Department of State. The Pickering Fellowship has both an Undergraduate and Graduate Program. Pickering Undergraduate applicants must apply as rising seniors; Graduate applicants must be seeking admission to a two-year master’s degree program for the following academic year.

Rangel Fellowships

The program seeks individuals interested in helping to shape a freer, more secure and prosperous world through formulating, representing, and implementing U.S. foreign policy. The Program encourages the application of members of minority groups historically underrepresented in the Foreign Service and those with financial need.  There are two major components to the Rangel Program: an International Affairs Graduate Fellowship Program that provides support for graduate school, professional development, and entry into the U.S. Foreign Service, and an undergraduate International Affairs Summer Enrichment Program that provides undergraduates with the opportunity to enhance their skills, knowledge and understanding about U.S. foreign policy.

Salk Scholarships

The Jonas Salk scholarships are awarded annually to eight graduates of the CUNY senior colleges. The scholarships are awarded to students who have been accepted to a U.S. medical school and have performed scientific research as an undergraduate. The student’s research papers are reviewed and recipients are selected for their potential to make significant contributions to medical research. The winners receive a total of $8,000 ($2,000 per year for four-year medical schools) to help defray the cost for the M.D., Ph.D. or D.Sc in Biomedical Sciences or D.O. degree.

Schepp Scholarships

The Foundation grants approximately 200 individual awards each year to both full time undergraduate students enrolled in four year bachelor programs and to full time graduate students. The Foundation also grants a small number of fellowship awards for independent study and research, usually post-doctoral, based on the recommendation of a recognized institution. These fellowships are intended to encourage research that will improve the general welfare of mankind. Because funds for such grants are limited, interested applicants should inquire as to the availability of funding for fellowships in their chosen field of study.

The Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans

Thirty fellowships of up to $90,000 over two years will be awarded for study at any graduate or professional school.  Fellows are selected on the basis of merit – the specific criteria emphasize creativity, originality, initiative and sustained accomplishment – in annual national competitions.  Candidates apply directly.  The program does not depend on recommendations from universities or regional screening.   Neither financial need nor distributive considerations are taken into account in the selection process.

  • Applicant must be a “New American”, which includes green card holders, naturalized citizens, and U.S.-born children of parents who are both naturalized citizens.

  • Candidates must be not more than 30 years old.
